Did you know that whiskers are super important for cats?
That’s right! In addition to helping cats gauge their size, whiskers – also known as vibrissae – assist with balance, allowing them to perform activities safely, such as walking, running, and jumping!
Whiskers also serve as a warning for any changes in the environment! This is because vibrissae have deep roots in an area filled with sensory cells. This way, cats can detect small vibrations even from a distance or in the dark.
Important: do not cut your cat’s whiskers!
If they lose their whiskers, they also lose their sense of space and balance, which could lead to falls when they jump or leap.
Moreover, they often become very stressed, so take good care of their whiskers!
Another important point: weak or brittle whiskers are a sign that something is wrong. Stay alert and take your kitty to the vet!
